Our Client has a requirement for a Project Manager, who will be required to work on a permanent basis in Warrington.

Role Purpose:

The job holder will also engage the support of other staff such as Project Coordinators, Engineers, Planners, Quantity Surveyors, Buyers, etc in addition to close liaison with other Project Managers, Key Account Managers and other internal staff and clients as necessary to effectively execute the function.

The job holder will work on MEICA contracts/projects, typically involving mechanical, electrical, instrumentation, control and automation systems.

The job holder may be required to mentor junior/assistant staff, Project Coordinators or Administrators.

Job Role Responsibilities:

Project Delivery

  • Complete typical project management tasks such as creating detailed programs, issuing early warnings, costing and submitting variations, forecasting, etc.

  • Assume full project management responsibility for all projects within the portfolio, which includes the following:

    • Monitor the overall commercial performance of the project, maintaining accurate cost-to-complete forecasts and raising awareness of any threats related to additional costs, delays, or reduced margins.

    • For any changes, evaluate early warnings, compensation events, and/or variations (or similar issues) and communicate these to the client and delivery teams.

    • Highlight any project risks or delays and ensure communication to all stakeholders.

    • Communicate project programs and progress with both internal stakeholders and the client, providing relevant commercial and engineering updates.

    • Collaborate regularly with the engineering design and manufacturing teams to ensure projects are progressing as planned.

    • Ensure the project is delivered according to established quality procedures.

    • Ensure project design reviews are carried out as required.

    • Maintain strong communication with site delivery teams during the construction phase, attending site as necessary to monitor progress, conduct site briefings, and uphold quality standards.

    • Support Project Coordinators or Administrators in completing routine administrative tasks.

    • Work with engineering teams, designers, and the client to ensure design proposals are properly reviewed and follow internal and external governance routes. Ensure resource allocation for site investigation, scoping, and in-house development tasks.

    • For assigned projects, ensure all teams (engineering design, manufacturing, and installation) are clear on the scope and program of works, as well as any technical requirements. Communicate any changes to these requirements promptly and address any impacts on costs or timelines with the client.

    • Serve as the main point of client contact for assigned projects, escalating significant issues (e.g., delays or cost impacts) to Key Account Managers or Operations Managers.

Commercial

  • Support Key Account Managers on new project bids and quotes by identifying project management or administration resource needs and defining program requirements to meet client timelines.

  • In collaboration with the Quantity Surveyor, ensure all contractual obligations are met on assigned projects, including managing formal communications with the client, ensuring timely invoicing, and properly handling project changes.

  • Support broader commercial and technical management needs by:

    (a) Providing regular monthly summary progress reports across all projects, highlighting technical progress, commercial performance, and any changes;

    (b) Ensuring all project commercial data is updated at least monthly;

    (c) Escalating significant commercial issues or risks to Project Managers or Key Account Managers promptly.

Health and Safety

  • Assume full responsibility for fulfilling the requirements of the Principal Contractor and Designer under CDM regulations. Obtain the necessary Site Manager's (SMSTS) qualification and support site-based activities as required.

  • Work with the Construction Manager and Health & Safety Advisor to ensure that all construction sites and site establishments are properly set up and routinely audited.

  • Develop Health and Safety documentation for site works associated with assigned projects, ensuring Risk Assessments and Method Statements are prepared, reviewed, and issued.

  • For allocated projects, ensure a responsible person is assigned to oversee site activities and is fully aware of the scope and their responsibilities.

  • Escalate any Health and Safety issues to the Operations Manager immediately.

  • Attend client sites as necessary to review job progress and ensure work packages are signed off by the client's Project Managers.

  • Conduct periodic site safety inspections (typically once per month).

Experience / Skills / Knowledge / Qualifications:

Essential Skills

  • Good planning, organisational and time management skills.
  • Must be positive, approachable, willing and helpful.
  • Good interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent IT skills, including MS Word, MS Excel and MS Project.
  • Ability to act on own initiative.
  • Ability to communicate effectively at all levels within and outside the organisation.

Special Features

  • Must be commercially aware.
  • Must be a good team player.
  • An appreciation of electrical installations and control systems including, but not limited to, control panels/MCCs, PLC, SCADA, instrumentation is preferred.
  • Previous experience of working on electrical installation jobs within the Water Industry is preferred, in particular acting as the Principal Contractor.
  • Previous experience working on NEC3 or NEC4 construction contracts.
  • The job holder shall have a willingness to undertake an annual performance 1 to 1 review, to attend and have an active participation in all internal and external training courses.
