Environment Specialists x1 Manchester & x1 Birmingham - 6 Month Contract Inside IR35

Role Specification

Supporting all aspects of environmental management within the North West & Central Rail Region, the ideal candidate should have demonstrable experience working in the operation and enhancement of linear infrastructure. In particular, the candidate should have broad experience working in areas including; energy and carbon reduction, waste management, social performance and biodiversity management.
Build the desired environment and sustainability culture throughout the business unit to achieve continuous improvement and adoption of best practice.
Experience of working on Decarbonisation projects

Key Accountabilities

Deliver expert technical advice on environmental management and sustainability requirements as part of the planning, design and delivery of projects, including Environmental & Social Appraisal and Management Plan, PQQ, ITT, environmental incident investigation, environmental survey commissioning and environmental consents applications.
Implement the environment and sustainability aspects of the Region/Programme S&SD strategy, working with all relevant business areas and the supply chain to enable successful delivery.
Work with project teams to determine practical and deliverable measures to improve the environmental and sustainability performance on projects.
Drive the implementation of best practices through the project teams and the supply chain by capturing and sharing lessons learnt to deliver efficiencies.
Manage the Environment team within a Region/Programme (where relevant).
Manage relationships with internal and external stakeholders, liaising with regulatory bodies and other agencies, developing partnerships with NGOs, working collaboratively with contracting organisations, maintaining effective liaison with other IP Regions/Programmes and aligned routes, and contributing to the national strategy.
Manage the implementation and continuous improvement of the Environment Management System (EMS) within the Region/Programme through active engagement within the relevant business areas and the supply chain. Manage the delivery and implementation of the environment and sustainability education and training programme for the Region/ Programme, supporting staff to understand their responsibilities, and improve technical awareness of environmental aspects.
Develop internal and external environment and sustainability communications for the Region/Programme such as cascades, briefings, lessons learnt, case studies, newsletters etc.

Essential
Educated to a degree standard
Membership of a relevant professional institution [IEMA].
Good communication and report writing skills.

Desirable
Comprehensive knowledge and appreciation of environmental and project management disciplines to a high standard
Experience in implementing environmental requirements for major infrastructure projects, preferably in the railway industry.
