To lead, manage and motivate the East Midlands region's work winning effort;
To work in partnership with the Divisional Director and Business Development Manager to identify and secure suitable work opportunities;
To maintain and grow our work streams by nurturing and developing long term relationships with key Clients, Professionals and the Supply Chain;
To develop a strong, committed and highly motivated winning preconstruction team;

Responsibilities

  • Assist with the establishment and delivery of the objectives and targets in the Annual Business Unit Business Plan;
  • Work closely with the Business Development Manager to identify, and secure work opportunities from the open market, PQQ and frameworks;
  • Directly supervise the Estimating team (currently a team of 6), Bid Manager, Estimators, coordination with Design Managers, Planners, M&E, Project Staff & Proposals;
  • Development of strong personal relationships with Clients/Consultants/supply chain and staff;
  • Assist in the management and completion of 'Expressions of Interest', Prequalification's and Questionnaires;
  • Participate in management reviews of workload and opportunities;
  • Plan, allocate and manage resources (internal and external) to process bids successfully;
  • Manage, direct and set win strategies for bids;
  • Lead bid strategy, review and settlement meetings;
  • Ensure estimators costs within bids are validated;
  • Compile budget costs for tenders/bids;
  • Maintain financial records of completed bids to maintain feel for competitive / winning market levels;
  • Provide innovation thinking and ideas to differentiate bids from the competition - both commercially and in terms of the quality submission, content and format;
  • Allocate clear roles and responsibilities for members of the bid team;
  • Allocate or retain the role of bid manager for each bid opportunity;
  • Play a key role in bid submissions including co-ordinating, writing and reviewing the work of others and identification of key differentiators;
  • Manage and control preconstruction costs;
  • Preparation of management reports / KPI statistics, submission to regional and national reports;
  • Lead interview team preparation and review and attendance as required;
  • Organise/produce interview presentation material;
  • Ensure a consistency of approach, and drive forward continuous improvement in our bids, both commercial and quality submissions;
  • Support the regional contribution and updates to the Salesforce opportunities database;
  • Ensure full compliance with all company systems processes and procedures and ensure that all bids are controlled in accordance with corporate governance levels and procedures;
  • Obtain client feedback on Interserve performance;
  • Communicate with other Interserve construction staff to harness their knowledge and experience - this can require travel to sites or other offices, but generally within the East Midlands region;
  • Providing information for company marketing and staff communications;
  • Support and participate in the social programme, corporate, client & supply chain events including facilitating meetings;
  • Support the regions relationship management plans at all levels;
  • Support the development and training of staff within the preconstruction team, including annual staff appraisals;
  • Participate in national work winning initiatives and national framework bids.
  • To support and be familiar with own role and responsibility in respect of Business Continuity Planning. Ensuring that team members are also aware of the plans and communicates same.


Knowledge skills & experience

  • Preferably educated to degree level (desirable);
  • Confidently use 'Adobe Writer', 'Adobe Photoshop', 'MS Publisher', 'MS PowerPoint', 'MS Office', Salesforce, Prezi (desirable);
  • Knowledge of, but ideally skilled in the use of document presentation software, preferably 'Adobe In-Design' (desirable);
  • Strong relationships with the clients and consultants operating within the East Midlands region (desirable);
  • Team management and leadership skills;
  • Dynamic, enthusiastic and capable of inspiring a team to win;
  • Ability to work to tight deadlines - sometimes outside normal office hours;
  • Excellent planning and time management skills;

  • Experience of producing high quality bid documents and promotional/sales material in the building contracting sector (desirable);
  • Knowledge and understanding of the bid process, from pre-tender (PQQ), through tendering and into construction (desirable);
  • To come from either a Contracting or Consultant background;
  • A previous position within a Clients organisation would also be considered where appropriate (desirable);
  • To have the technical and business knowledge necessary to respond to Questionnaires and Prequalification documents.
