This is an exciting opportunity to become the Central Region's Community and Sustainability Manager, based in Manchester and covering a wide area including Greater Manchester and Cheshire. Working closely the Central Region Stakeholder Manager and three other regional Community and Sustainability Managers in other regions, you will have responsibility for delivering the Community and Sustainability Strategy across the Central Region, in order to deliver against our committed obligations to the Rail North Partnership (Department for Transport and Transport for the North).
You will be the main contact for Community Rail Partnerships (CRPs), station adoption groups and other community groups in the region. You will work collaboratively with your community stakeholders to build a strong, coherent and integrated regional network.
The role will also require you to support the delivery of the Environmental and Energy Management Systems and deliver environmental awareness initiatives and training in the region.

Principle accountabilities will also include:

  • Working collaboratively with the Regional Stakeholder Manager in order to deliver the Arriva Stakeholder Strategy
  • Working closely with station and facilities management teams to implement CRP related and station adoption projects
  • Working closely with the Community Marketing Manager to facilitate collaborative working with CRPs
  • Local management of the Station Adoption Fund
  • Environmental auditing of facilities as directed by the Environmental Management System
  • Managing the regional resource efficiency programme and other environmental initiatives identified in the Sustainability Strategy and Environmental Action Plan


About you and your experience:
As well as having experience of managing regional rail strategies and being passionate and knowledgeable about local rail and transport priorities, you will need to have financial acumen and budget management experience along with;

  • Abillity to effectively communicate, written, verbal, informal and formally, in order engage and deliver strategy, policy and processes
  • Have extensive personal network within transport to maximize engagement and opportunities
  • Be knowledgeable about local communities within the relevant regional base
  • Have evidence of, and be experienced in analysing incoming requests for funding and ability to interpret requests in order to assess viability and make recommendations within budget
  • Understand and be able to translate local sustainability and environmental issues relating to rail transport within the region


You will also need:

  • Degree level education or have equivalent experience
  • Experience of implementing Management Systems, ideally certified to ISO14001 or ISO5000
  • Experience of working in the transport sector
  • Experience of working in a complex multi-site environment and with a diverse range of stakeholders


Qualifications:

  • Lead Auditor qualification is desirable
  • Associate member of IEMA (Institute of Environmental Management and Assessment) or equivalent is desirable
