Carry out Engineering Safety Management activities for Crossrail Stations, Shafts and Portals and Railway Systems in providing oversight to ensure that Safety Engineering on the Crossrail Project is conducted in a manner that is compliant to the latest applicable requirements of UK Law and good practice, in order to achieve a level of risk that is acceptable.

Principal Accountabilities

* Reports to the Head of System Safety and Interoperability and carries out Engineering Safety Management activities for Stations, Shafts and Portals and Railway Systems across the Central Operating Section as required
* Develop strong, well defined interfaces with interoperability and authorisation activities being managed by the Interoperability Manager (via the NoBo and AsBo)
* Develop strong, well defined interfaces with Assessment Body (AsBo) activities being assessed under Common Safety Method (CSM) to ensure is legally compliant and in good position to obtain a favourable Safety Assessment Report from the AsBo
* Provide the contribution of the Stations, Shafts and Portals Safety and Railway Systems Justifications and interfaces with other elements
* Checking that the Contractor's System Safety Plans are are compliant to applicable Railway Regulations, with regard to safety engineering, to London Underground, Railway Group Standards, European/UK Standards, Common Safety Methods, Yellow Book and Technical Specifications for Interoperability
* Maintaining, with engineering teams, the processes and controls for safety engineering and safety assurance activities as part of the Crossrail project lifecycle
* Interfacing with project teams and providing assistance on Safety Assurance & Safety Engineering issues
* Liaising with contractors in relation to system safety engineering, review and acceptance of contractor performance with regard to safety engineering. Review and acceptance of contractor deliverables with regard to safety engineering
* Day to day management of and conducting safety engineering and safety assurance activities
* Managing and establishing activities required to check that the integrated system is safe. Undertaking Safety Engineering activities as described by Common Safety Methods, Yellow Book, EN50126, EN50128, EN50129 and IEC 61508
* Assessing the impact on safety due to change in requirements, design or legislations.
* Representing Safety Engineering discipline for Stations Shafts and Portals on:
i. Hazard Review Panel
ii. Gate reviews
iii. RAB-C and other panels and groups as appropriate

Person Specification
* Substantial experience of Safety Engineering and Common Safety Method Regs in a railway related environment
* Engineering degree iis desirable
* Chartered Engineer or member of the Safety and Reliability Society desirable
