Play a key role in delivering one of the UK’s most significant infrastructure projects focused on sustainability and environmental excellence.
Our client has a requirement for an Environmental Advisor, who will be required to work on a contract basis in Suffolk.
Role Purpose
To provide environmental support and guidance to the project team across all aspects of environmental management, ensuring compliance with legislation and company standards while promoting a culture of continual improvement and sustainability.
- Support site set-up, construction controls, mitigations, and sustainability initiatives.
- Work with project teams to meet environmental and sustainability commitments in line with business management systems.
- Lead by example on site, promoting best practice, innovation, and positive learning.
- Provide guidance, monitoring, and documentation to ensure environmental compliance.
- Conduct inspections and investigations, sharing lessons learnt and driving improvements.
- Support community engagement, supply chain collaboration, and social sustainability activities.
Job Role Responsibilities
- Implement and monitor sustainability plans, tracking progress and outcomes.
- Manage environmental and social risks and opportunities across the project lifecycle.
- Deliver advice and training on environmental compliance, pollution control, and ecology protection.
- Prepare and maintain environmental documentation, risk assessments, and mitigation measures.
- Support consent, licence, and permit applications as required.
- Provide training through toolbox talks, briefings, and on-site learning.
- Record, report, and upload sustainability data monthly.
- Support audits, inspections, and incident investigations, ensuring corrective actions are implemented.
- Work with design teams to identify opportunities to reduce carbon, waste, and biodiversity loss.
- Liaise with regulators and subcontractors on sustainability and environmental performance.
Experience / Skills / Knowledge / Qualifications
- Strong knowledge of environmental management and statutory requirements.
- Experience with environmental legislation, ecology mitigation, licensing, and consent processes.
- Excellent communication, influencing, planning, and organisational skills.
- Ability to analyse data, maintain records, and produce detailed reports.
- Collaborative and proactive approach to problem solving.
- Proficient in MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
- Full UK driving licence and flexibility to travel.
- Professional Membership level of a relevant professional body (IEMA/CIEEM/CIWEM)D
Desirable:
- Good knowledge and practical experience of developing, implementing and improving EMS’s certified to ISO 14001 accreditation.
- Internal environmental auditor qualification.
- Knowledge of the Construction Industry – specifically understanding of the rail/construction/engineering operating environment.
- Understanding of the Section 61 application/consent process.
- Understanding of socio-economics (social-value / social-performance).
- Experience of taking on new challenges in a systematic and enthusiastic manner.
- Demonstrable experience in the implementation of the waste hierarchy, Circular Economy principles and beneficial re-use.
- Managing legislative issues for clients, including planning permissions and consents.
